Why was the company set up? How did MLC select the verticals to focus on?
From the beginning, we recognized the need for a boutique-style approach that was based on providing client value through a combination of experience and innovation. At the time in 1987, firms in the financial industry had a specific need for assistance in developing their Business Continuity Programs as well as for other consulting services, so that was the first vertical that MLC focused on. In later years (the mid-’90s), MLC recognized that there was a tremendous void in manufacturing and distribution for these services and actively shifted its attention to that vertical.
If you have to list five factors that have been/are the biggest asset to your organization, what would they be and why?
Factors that have been the biggest asset to our organization:
- Listening to and understanding our clients’ needs as well as their capabilities,
- A well-established programmatic approach that is comprehensive and incorporates a blend of multiple disciplines from six sigma/lean to Business Continuity, to Project Management, to Organizational Development and Corporate Performance Management.
- Developing customized solutions that are innovative yet practical and actionable. Customized plans and solutions must be current, tested and the individuals that are responsible need to be trained so that they are able to understand and successfully implement the plan and provide leadership in the face of difficult-high stress situations. This will determine the timeframe for when an organization will recover from an event or situation, effectively meet multiple challenges simultaneously, and provide certainty to its work force, customers, business partners, and the public.

‘It is difficult to start a venture, but far more difficult to maintain it’. How would you and your team interpret this saying?
MLC has been able to sustain its success over more than 30 years by providing quality and value to its clients. Many firms may have the desire but lack the experience or capability or persistence to keep going since longevity requires the consistent delivery of actual value. Countless start-ups do not focus enough on delivering value or ongoing customer satisfaction with their work product – instead, they focus on fee generation or may make promises for solutions that they are unable to deliver.
Are there any trigger factors/events/individuals that have played key roles in shaping your organization’s road map?
Our founder Mary L. Carrido set the bar when she started the company in 1987 and we have undertaken the challenge of sustaining that initial vision while innovating our services and product offerings. Overall, our clients have played a key role in our success by providing challenges that require us to constantly innovate while maintaining our core capabilities. In addition, customer loyalty based on our record of successfully completing projects has allowed us to maintain steady growth over the years.
What drives/inspires you to excel in your field of business?
We continually strive to excel and are motivated by our clients’ needs. In order to deliver on our mission and values, we work hard to maintain their trust while creating innovative approaches and incorporating the latest in technology, human performance management, and other fields to tailor solutions to every project. In addition, we care about our clients and listen to their needs. Their success is our success.
How does your company contribute to the global IT platform?
MLC sets a high standard for delivering results and true ROI in everything we do. In some cases, our approach (in part) has encouraged or even forced some industry providers to change their solutions to better fit the current and future needs of their clients rather than relying on previous and outdated platforms. For example, our Business Continuity approach has been recognized as a model for the industry.
Do you have any new products ready to be rolled out into the market?
While improving our Business Continuity solution, we continue to customize solutions for our clients in technologies such as CRM and medical billing management.
Where do you see your company in a couple of years from now?
